How to clean your phone: The right way to clean your smartphone!

Have you ever stopped to think about how often you pick up your iPhone and place it down on different surfaces—including not-so-clean ones? Cleaning your phone regularly is definitely not a luxury. In fact, it should be just as routine as washing your hands. Here's the best way to clean your smartphone safely and effectively.

Step 1: Remove dust and dirt first

Before you begin, switch off your phone to avoid accidentally activating anything while cleaning. Remove dust and small particles from the screen first, as these can cause scratches during cleaning. Blow away loose dirt or use a soft microfiber cloth. A handy tip: greasy fingerprints can often be lifted with a small piece of adhesive tape.

Step 2: Use the right cleaning products

Recommended:

• Use a cleaning solution specifically designed for smartphones or screens, preferably alcohol-based, or a suitable disinfectant spray.
• Always use a microfiber cloth. Its soft fibres safely remove dirt without scratching the display. Clean using circular motions and dry the screen with the clean side of the cloth.

Not recommended:

• Hand sanitiser is not suitable for cleaning your phone screen. It contains moisturising ingredients that leave greasy streaks on the display.
• Paper towels or tissues may seem harmless, but they can leave fine scratches on your screen.

Step 3: Clean the charging port, speaker and microphone

Many modern smartphones no longer have a headphone jack, but dust can still collect in other openings. Keeping the charging port clean is especially important, as built-up dirt may interfere with charging. Use compressed air, a blunt wooden toothpick or a thin stick wrapped with adhesive tape to carefully remove dirt. The same method can be used for the speaker and microphone. Always work gently and make sure no moisture enters any openings.
